Name: Lady Calais DiAngelis of Aeolia (pronounced cah-lie-as) Age: 21 Race: Human Occupation: Journeyman mage under Master Connoll Lineage: Duchess, daughter of Duke DiAngelis of Aeolia Weapon: Almost entirely magic, a dirk as a last resort
Appearance: Hair: Long and silver-blond, pulled back in a loose braid almost to her waist Eyes: Grey Skin: Very fair Height: 5'8" Build: Classic hourglass figure-large bust and full hips with a narrow waist.
Personality:
Calais is completely unflappable, calm, and composed. She is an aristocrat, daughter of the Duke the First Province of Aeolia. The Duke is the steward of a third of Aeolia and is second only to the ancient King in power. Her royal birth shows in her demeanor and her poise, and it doesn't hurt her recognition value that she wears a small silver circlet on her forehead. She is totally committed to her duty and obligation to her people and has become an expert at repressing her own emotions and impulses for the "greater good" of Aeolia. She also plays the harp, but avoids it whenever possible because she feels it pigeonholes her into a passive, female role.
History:
Calais spent most of her life as an only child, being primed to take over the Dukedom when her father passed on. Her father was desperate for a son to take over his Dukedom, but he and his wife were unable to conceive another child. However, after one mysterious "purging" miscarriage (many suspect foul play or sorcery of some kind but nobody will say anything about the incident) and a stillborn son, the Duchess bore a son. Calais was then a teenager, and it was a huge shock for her to be bumped down to the role of "marriageable meat," as she disgustedly referred to herself.
Her brother will succeed his father to the Dukedom because he is a boy, even though Calais is older, more mature, and far more responsible. She accepts this, and if she does not like it, her devotion to her duties and studies will not let her show it. The young dukeling is irresponsible, careless, and does not realize that any of his actions might have consequences, which distresses Calais immensely. However, what upsets her most of all is how much her family changes every time she goes home to Aeolia on leave from her studies in Coranth. Her father is changed, more distant somehow, her mother is increasingly weak with some sort of malaise, and her cute little toddler brother is a spoiled brat. She is secretly homesick for "the old days" and longs for some sort of balance in her life.
Family:
Father, Duke Edouard DiAngelis of Aeolia
Mother, Duchess DiAngelis of Aeolia
Younger brother, Lord Cameron DiAngelis of Aeolia
