Marandall is the land of scholars, the center of scholarship and studies. Scholars of every race and from all over the world come to Marandall in order to study and learn in peace. The Great Library of Marandall is made up of all the ancient texts that the scholars have managed to dredge up over the years that somehow survived the destruction and chaos of years of war.
If it came to fighting in a war, Marandall would be the first to fall. The people concern themselves not with fighting, war, and discovering new ways to kill each other, but with peace, knowledge, and the ancient learning of the Sidhe, the lost race. Marandall uses diplomatic means to resolve conflicts, but if all else failed, Coranth would have to step in and protect its tiny cousin to the south.
The country is very loose in that respect, and if it were up to the scholars to actually run the country, it would fall apart. The wiser the sage, the less likely they are to know exactly how to launder their socks and poach an egg. (XD) However, even scholars need food and commerce, so Port Town handles the real running of the country. Port Town is a crossroads of the Realms, and the scholars are kept in ready supply of anything they need. From Port Town on Harpers' Bay, goods are trundled overland a short hop to Delta Town (tentative name), where they are loaded onto barges for portage up the river to the scholars and the scholar town. Marandall does not produce much; it makes most of its money through trade and is a relatively prosperous nation.
